Kiki Smith | NYTImes Over the past three years Ms. Smith has been painting the nearly 30 mostly black-and-white stained-glass panels in “Pilgrim” (2007-10), the centerpiece,of her coming PaceWildenstein show. On her dozen or so recent visits to the work’s fabricator, Franz Mayer of Munich, Ms. Smith said, she stayed for two weeks at a time in a room on the factory’s top floor so she could begin painting as soon as the day’s first batch of panels emerged from the kiln and keep working until 1 or 2 in the morning. The results present a modern-day Madonna and Child, along with versions of Pietas that Ms. Smith admired in church windows as a child. In lieu of the Virgin Mary, she has loosely based the panels on real-life friends and colleagues; her hope, she said, is that viewers will “insert their own lives into those images.”

Well, I have graduated from an iPhone to a Nex 6 Sony Camera. So, I am a student again and this is very much an exercise in street photography. I continued with my interest in broken spaces and signs, though mixed with some sideway peeks as the the pull out LCD display and Optical Zoom allow me to more freedom to be not noticed.

Laurie Spiegel plays Alles synth, 1977

This 1977 tape is one of the earliest examples of purely digital realtime audio synthesis. It manages to achieve an analog synth sounding quality, but it is entirely digital synthesis and signal processing.

The interactive software I wrote and am playing in this video recycles my keyboard input into an accompaniment to my continued playing, which is why I called it a “concerto generator”. I use part of one of the keyboards for control data entry, and the small switches upper right to access pre-entered numerical patterns. The sliders are mainly pre-Yamaha FM synthesis parameter controls, for the number of harmonics and amplitude and frequency of the FM modulator and carrier that constituted each musical voice.”
